Standard I
I. Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
Reflection
In order to inspire student learning and creativity, students must enjoy attending class and feel engaged in the activities that are taking place in the class. The class structure of the past, lectures using transparencies or multimedia slides to deliver a traditional lecture, has quickly become outdated. Creating a comfortable class environment and incorporating modern technology in teaching styles will aid in achieving Standard I. Technology such as the flipped classroom and blogging are concepts that can be used to meet the requirements of this standard. The flipped classroom is a great way to keep students engaged in class. The learning of course concepts takes place outside of class with information provided in a course site, and class time is reserved for collaborating with classmates and working on course projects which keeps students from becoming bored listening to long class lectures. Grouping students in teams to complete projects will allow them to improve their communication and interpersonal skills, both of which are desired by employers in the workforce. Incorporating class blogs will also aid in the communication and collaboration effort and help students share their ideas as well as connect with fellow classmates. I believe that the feedback students get from classmates will be a valuable learning experience.

Future Learning Goal
My plan for the fall semester is to create detailed lesson plans for each objective that I will cover in my classes. The purpose of these lesson plans is to help me stay on track and to help students understand the course content and “see the whole picture.” I also plan to select one class to require students to create and maintain a blog for the semester. I will evaluate the effectiveness of the blog and students’ experiences with the blog.
